District Education department, Hoshiarpur in association with GNA University, Phagwara conducted  a 2 days’ Workshop on CNC Technology for the students of 10+2 vocational stream (Mechanical and Automobile) as its extension and outreach activity under its SEDA-FANUC Center of Excellence (COE). The main focus of this workshop was to provide the advanced training in the mechanical design, CNC Simulator, CNC turning machine and Fused Deposition Modeling. More than 120 students of various schools of the region participated in this workshop on advanced technologies.

Day 1 of the workshop started with the presentation on the latest technologies being used in the design and manufacturing of the products. The students were acquainted with the Auto CAD software for the development of the drawings. After the training, the students developed their own drawings for the various parts. On second day of the workshop, the students were trained on FANUC CNC Simulator and developed their own part programs of the drawings developed by them on Auto CAD software. On the CNC Simulator, the students tested and simulated their developed programs. After this the students were taken to the CNC Machine where the students machined the workpiece according to their drawings.

After the successful competition of the training, the Certificate distribution ceremony was done which was graced by Prof. CR Tripathy, Dean SEDA, Dr. VK Rattan the Vice-Chancellor of GNA University, Dr. Hemant Sharma the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Monika Hanspal Dean Academics and the faculty members from the various schools.

Prof. C.R. Tripathy formally welcomed all the students and faculty members and showcased them facilities of CNC Simulator, CNC Machines.  He mentioned about the significance of Centre of Excellence and its aim. He also stated that the effort behind COE is to make our engineering students industry-ready. This helped them in understanding CNC machines and assembly of actual systems of industrial Automation which is linked with the CNC die and mould manufacturing machines.

Dr. VK Rattan, the Vice-Chancellor, GNA University emphasized, “Such Workshops under FANUC COE will prove to be the best practices for making the students skillful and industry ready employable.” He also stresses upon that the students should make the maximum utilization of the CoE for their bright future.
